Precious Pearls Jewellery, based in the picturesque seaside village of Mumbles, Wales, is the country’s first and only dedicated pearl shop. Founded by Erna, a GIA-certified pearl graduate and internationally recognised pearl specialist, the boutique offers both ready-to-wear jewellery and bespoke commissions crafted in silver, gold, and semi-precious stones.
Erna personally sources cultured pearls from sustainable pearl farmers in Hong Kong, hand-selecting each pearl for its luster, shape, and individuality. With a passion for elegance and an intuitive flair for design, she creates timeless jewellery that reflects the unique style of every client.
Precious Pearls Jewellery offers both in-person and online appointments, welcoming clients into the Mumbles studio or virtually connecting with those further afield.

Meet the team
Erna | Founder, Designer & Jeweller
Originally from South Africa, Erna moved to Wales where she opened Precious Pearls Jewellery over a decade ago – the first dedicated pearl shop in the country. Her lifelong passion for pearls and jewellery design quickly established her reputation as a specialist in bespoke creations.
Erna’s qualifications include being a GIA Pearl Graduate, holding a Pearl Specialist Diploma from the Cultured Pearl Association of America, and completing the De Beers Diamond Foundation Course. She is also recognised as a De Beers Group Diamond Graduate.
Her process begins with personally hand-selecting cultured pearls in Hong Kong, chosen for their quality and uniqueness. Back in Mumbles, she transforms them into jewellery that blends craftsmanship with personal storytelling. Clients can collaborate with Erna in-store or through private appointments to design bespoke pieces that capture their individual style.
